Makeup Mistakes Indian Brides Make

Your wedding day – and all eyes are on you! No pressure (!) but we definitely want you to put your best face forward and (let’s be honest) steal the show. So being your friendly, neighborhood Happy Shappy wedding planning portal, we checked in with the experts on the worst makeup mistakes Indian brides make. So get your fierce diva decked out – one that wows the guests, and all those social media stalkers!

Wearing The Wrong Shade Of Foundation

Whether in an effort to appear more light skinned, or simply because you haven’t color matched to the right shade of foundation – this one is a huge no-no. So please throw away the Fair and Lovely, because (A) You’re already lovely and (B) That stuff is bad news. Instead, be sure to have your makeup artist mix and match your foundation to the perfect shade, and test it in daylight and indoor lighting.

Not Booking A Makeup Trial

This is one of the most easily avoidable makeup mistakes Indian brides make! Your wedding is not the day to go about experimenting with your look and trying something new. Before you finalize a makeup artist, be sure to book a trial – see if their makeup skills, products and even personal demeanor suit you. We recommend going with an artist who uses high quality makeup and isn’t a diva – you don’t want breakouts and stress on your big day! Going Unprepared For A Makeup Trial

We’re glad you took our advice and booked a makeup trial – but that may not be enough! Bring inspiration images of looks you like to the trial – either previous brides the artist worked on, or even celebrity looks you love. A picture is worth a thousand words and will convey much more than any description you provide! Plus, in case you’re not using all the right technical terms, your glowing cheekbones could actually turn into glittery meteors!

Not Having The Makeup Artist Come To You

Most makeup artists do charge extra fees to travel to your venue or wherever it is you’ll be getting dolled up. But this isn’t the best place to save some cash! To be more budget conscious, we’d recommend booking a slightly less popular makeup artist, whose rates are palatable to you. There are plenty of them  who are incredibly talented and can fit in your range. We don’t want you stuck in traffic on your wedding day, and stress showing up uninvited to your party.

Looking Like Someone Else

Your wedding photos are forever, and the last thing you’ll want is your future children asking their Dad who this random lady he’s marrying is. Dramatic contouring is all the rage, but may leave your features looking completely altered. Instead, opt to look like an enhanced version of yourself – polished, elegant and classic.

Not Using Some Key Products

It goes without saying that the makeup artist should be using high quality makeup on you – hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic that won’t clog your pores and make zits rear their ugly heads. Start with a matte primer that will make your foundation go on smoother and last much longer; and finish with a humidity proof setting spray that will lock your look into place. And most importantly, you must use waterproof mascara – and be sure your mom, sister and BFFs use it as well.

Not Getting Your Makeup Touched-Up

Your wedding celebrations will go on for a pretty long time – jam packed with eating, dancing, and even some tears. So be sure to either have a touch up kit with you full of samples of the products used on you (like a mini lipstick and some blotting powder) so you can fix up your makeup as your evening goes on. Even better would be to have your makeup artist (or a junior artist) at the venue to do the touch ups as the evening goes on – leaving you picture perfect and Happy Shappy!
