We met up for a quick coffee to catch up before they went out of town. The only flaw in our plan? That there are no quick coffees with Noopur and Anish, from Happy Flashbacks.
Quick coffees turn into animated conversations, belly laughs and deep connections. This particular quick coffee lasted hours, and I walked away from it on a high — not from the caffeine, but from their passion and zest for filmmaking, and for each other.
But let’s start from the beginning: that chance encounter from where all great stories begin.
Noopur and Anish crossed paths over a decade ago, as he was gearing up for a documentary film based Pakistan, and she was pursuing a career in the media space. They were each following their own paths, until the two converged under made-for-movie circumstances.
Though their interaction was brief, Noopur had made an impression. It’s hard for her not to, really– she’s vivacious, speaks her mind and has a sparkle that makes the room shine brighter when she walks in. Noopur talks a mile a minute and then even at a rare quiet moment, a pair of mischievous eyes peak out from behind her fringe to do lots more talking.
So they’d met, they’d spoken, they’d laughed– but as the timing of life would have it, their paths took them in different directions.
Anish went off to Pakistan to create a celebrated documentary, and it would be months till he and Noopur re-connected in Delhi. But eventually they did meet, and meet again, and kept meeting some more. Or as Anish recalls it, “Noopur started speaking on Day 1 and hasn’t stopped since!”
But of course, it wasn’t all talk. It just fit, and anyone can see why- his presence and magnetism, her vibrantly engaging personality – they go together perfectly.
As we sipped our coffee, Noopur excitedly recounted their early days of dating, Anish laughed and chimed in with witty one-liners. And when Anish spoke seriously about what drew them to each other and the connection they had, Noopur couldn’t contain her smile just looking at him.
I was the luckiest haddi in that kabab of a coffee date, watching them playfully jibe at each other, even after a decade together.
Anish truly believes Noopur is his lucky charm. His passion for filmmaking has always been unwavering and he’s been recognized as a stellar filmmaker. Anish’s documentary had won accolades, and he was working closely with top corporate honchos to make company films. But admittedly so, his work wasn’t going as well as he wanted. He wanted to scale higher heights and hone his craft, but various setbacks had left him heartbroken and at a low.
That’s when Noopur breezed into his life, bringing along her sunny warmth. And the stars suddenly aligned.
Noopur had been working in the media for years, and building connections with people from all walks of life. There’s a palpable happiness about her, an uplifting positivity that the world needs much more of.
And so, the universe did everything in its power to bring these two together. The rest, Noopur did – leaving Delhi and joining Anish in Noida.
Together, they launched their own company, Lemonz Studios — creating corporate films for an impressive roster of clients. With the fantastic professional balance of Anish’s technical prowess and Noopur’s immense networking capabilities, the tides began to turn in their favor. As fantastic filmmakers, companies were eager to work with the pair and they flourished professionally.
Work was stable and growth was exponential– Noopur and Anish were on a forceful trajectory. But little did they imagine that this very trajectory would soon propel them head-first into the rollercoaster world of wedding films. And then, there’d be no looking back.
With no wedding portfolio, no prior work in the chaotic and emotional space of capturing shaadi hungama, Noopur and Anish met Tushi and Vaibhav through a corporate client. Newly engaged, Tushi and Vaibhav were planning a big, fat Indian wedding and had their pick of anyone in the wedding industry. But what far surpassed any hefty folder of glossy photos that a photographer could bring, was the instant connection they had with Noopur and Anish. It was pure magic — a visceral reaction and mutual understanding of each other’s vibe that sealed the deal immediately.
Love is so easy when it’s with the right person. Noopur and Anish suddenly had their first wedding clients. The first of many, many weddings they would go on to be a part of and revel in.
And each of these weddings is hand picked by Noopur and Anish. Forever choosing quality over quantity, Happy Flashbacks now has 40 some projects in their portfolio — all 40 of which were based on an instinctive gut reaction. Where some photographers and filmmakers sign on clients based simply on their datebook (and their cheque book), Happy Flashbacks handpicks each celebration they’re a part of — people they’re drawn to, and people who eventually become like family to them.

Together, their work is a masterpiece, every single time.
And as we finished the last sips of our coffee, I asked them: if you were to style a shoot with yourselves in it – how would you love to see the other portrayed?
Noopur excitedly told me she’d love to see Anish go crazy, and let totally loose.
And Anish: “Quiet, I’d love to see her be quiet.”
It was in complete jest, of course – it is glaringly apparent how well Noopur and Anish’s personalities complement each other and challenge the other to constantly improve. Anish loves that over the years, he has become a bit more like Noopur– focusing not just on business, but also on taking the time to get to know people. It’s been the secret to their creative genius, and it’s here to stay.
Be it wedding films or corporate ones – these two are conquering the world of filmmaking with open arms. To me, their films and photos are perfection. But to themselves, they’re a work in progress – forever learning, always evolving, fine-tuning their technical expertise, and delving deeper into human emotions to capture incredible moments on film.
